"Composing A Life": Blazing a Path to Your Authentic Self November 2005

Hello, Namaste, Bondesioria, Ye‘ti, Bula, Ti nau!

This month's theme is: The Power of Language

Lisa HaishaI promised you in last month’s newsletter I was going to teach you a simple yet profoundly useful tool for realizing your true potential. Well, I changed my mind. Sorry. Instead, what I’m going to do is offer you a sales pitch for my fabulous new book, Whispers From Children’s Hearts. Whispers is a magical, sometimes profound, sometimes hilarious and sometimes heartbreaking look into the hearts and minds of children around the world. And I, Lisa, am already selling millions of copies of Whispers. That’s right. I, Lisa, am selling millions of copies of Whispers. I, Lisa, am selling millions of copies of Whispers. I, Lisa, am selling millions of copies of Whispers. I, Lisa, am selling millions of copies of Whispers. I, Lisa, am selling millions of …

Get the idea? What I just did is called an Affirmation. I’m sure many of you have already heard of it, but for those who haven’t, an Affirmation is basically a statement of what you would like to be real, presented as if it actually were real. Whether we’re aware of it or not, all of us use such self-fulfilling prophecies in our internal language all the time, though usually in negative and self-limiting ways. How many of us repeat internal mantras such as, “I was just born this way,” or “I’m not smart enough,” or “What am I even doing on this planet?” Some of those ideas have been implanted by our parents at a very young age. We took the torch and continue to carry it to this day, believing it is our inescapable destiny. But it’s not! In the finest Hollywood tradition, Affirmations allow us to rewrite our internal dialogue. By repeating lines like the one I wrote above over and over and over, we can gradually make it our new reality. Sure, it may sound far-fetched or cheesy, but it has worked for thousands of people (including me), and you have nothing to lose by giving it a try. Pick an affirmation, write it down ten times a day, speak it out loud in front of a mirror twenty times a day, and watch your visions become reality. Be patient because it takes about 60 days of doing it without missing a day! If you miss a day you have to start over. But if you can do it … Who knows, you may even end up our Artist, Avatar or Hero of the month! Until next time … Let go of all and you will be full.

Your Soul Blazer,
Lisa Haisha

Whispers
Whispers from Children's HeartsLOOKING FOR A UNIQUE AND PERFECT GIFT FOR THAT PERSON WHO IS HARD TO BUY FOR? Why not give them a gift that is timeless, will inspire them, make them laugh and think? I know, how about a copy of “Whispers from Children’s Hearts!?” It seems like an obvious and simple choice to me and it is easy to order!

What do MOCA, the Getty, the Skirball Center, the Bodhi Tree, Storyopolis, Lee Aronsohn (a TV Mogul), and one-hundred and thirteen and counting subscribers of this newsletter have in common? Well, they're all really cool, smart, and soulful -- and they also all pre-ordered limited, signed hardcover copies of Whispers from Children's Hearts for themselves, their customers, employees, and friends. Whispers makes the perfect gift book, one which will both entertain and enhance the lives of those who read it. In my life I have been blessed by the unique opportunity to look into the hearts of children all over the world, and I would love to share my experiences and insights with you. Beautifully illustrated by artist Tim Huhn, Whispers is a book that will stay with you forever.

Write On
Write On Book The reason I write is not because I love sitting for long hours alone punching keys on a keyboard to hopefully sell a script or book for gazillions of dollars. Or to be seen in a magazine article or a newsletter to boost my ego. The reason I write is because I have to. It’s my form of meditation, my place of solace. I love words, sentences, paragraphs, people, stories … I like playing god and creating the beauty of flaws in my characters. I want my readers to forget about their life while they’re spending time with me absorbing my fictional world. I want them to be swept away into a fantasy world where they can get inspired, feel more alive and get how great they are. They could be sitting in their cubicle in a poorly lit ugly office and sneak a peak into a book and be taken into a completely different world where Hogwarts live. Or they could be following a love affair between two deviant mismatched people in Kazakhstan, or be taken to a dark alley and listen in on the conversation of homeless people pouring out their souls. As a kid, books were my refuge. I loved biographies because I loved learning about how other people created their lives. Now it’s your turn.

Writing Assignment:

“Rowing harder doesn’t help if the boat is headed in the wrong direction.” – Kenichi Ohmae

Write about one time you headed in the completely wrong direction. What happened?

IMPROVERSATIONS™

Lisa: Hey, have you heard of this new form of writing called Improversations?
Randy: Huh? Nah. What's that?
Lisa: Well, I just created the term. Improversations! I like it. I just got a bit lonely from writing this newsletter all by myself so I decided to invite the readers to participate in some of the writing. It’s kind of an experiment.
Randy: Okay. How does it work?
Lisa: This month I start a provocative or interesting conversation and then the next month someone else continues it, and the following month someone else takes it up and we watch in breathless fascination where it all goes. Sort of like My Dinner With Andre in monthly installments. Readers should e-mail me their own follow-up paragraphs and the “best” one (the one that IMO takes the conversation in the most creative, unexpected or outrageous direction) gets printed and wins a thirty-day downloadable copy of Write On.
Randy: Cool. I want that.
Lisa: Then get ready to write. (a pause) I heard a Japanese scientist did an experiment where he played classical music and heavy metal music while ice crystals formed. The crystals formed under the classical music were beautiful and symmetrical. The heavy metal ones were all misshapen and weird-looking. Does that mean if you want to be more attractive or lose weight all you have to do is listen to classical music and voila, you look like Angelina Jolie?
TK: No, it means vibrations cause water to jiggle as it forms its own solid impression of itself, the way our ideas of beauty come from images vibrated across the pixels of our television'd minds - and it speaks of silence, without which music becomes pure noise - and asks us to examine snowflakes formed halfway between up and down; and why they become misshapen by losing weight, while we look into reflective pools and see ourselves auditioning to play the parts of our celebrities, on a self-imposed casting couch or self-imposed lasting "ouch". What’s playing on your "Me" pod?

Thank you Tom for your submission! YOUR TURN. Be brave and Send in your Improversation to continue the dialogue (between 75-100 words only, please)...

Artist of the Month
Suzanne Whang
I met Suzanne about a year ago at a taping of Two and a Half Men. She was a guest star and I was there to watch Lee Aronsohn, one of the creators of the show, be typically brilliant. Suzanne and I somehow ended up talking and clicking, and at the end of the evening said our good-byes without thinking we’d ever see each other again. But then we ran into each other at The Viper Room where her boyfriend, a musician with The Chris Pierce Band, happened to be playing. We swapped cards and met up for therapy and dinner.

As we started hanging out more frequently, I discovered that Suzanne is Wonder Woman! A Yale graduate, host of the #1 rated show on the Home & Garden Television Network, she’s writing a book on how to buy a house from a spiritual perspective and already has a publisher, and has co-hosted or hosted over a dozen shows including An Evening at the Academy Awards on ABC. She is also an accomplished actor, having won the BEST UP & COMING COMEDIAN of 2002 AWARD, and I could keep on going because there is much, much more, but we’d be here all night. To learn more about this brilliant, creative force (who by the way is a huge believer in affirmations) you can go to her website.

"SUNG HEE PARK, Welcome to America! Thank you for sharing your personal "Crash" course in human relations. I laughed, cringed, squirmed in my seat, and was moved by your poignant story of a woman redefining herself for herself. You literally placed your big toe on the thin line between funny and disrespectful but never stepped over it... Continue being fearless in your pursuits. Little. Yellow. Different. and Better. That indeed you are. SOLID!"

Avatar of the Month
In Hindu mythology an Avatar is a spirit guide and helper, and that's what we call our monthly selection of a person or organization whose mission is to assist individuals and companies on a higher level than most, and whose skills and talents we believe will make your life easier and happier. They will give you the room and support to grow into your life's work.

Namaste Interactive
I met the founders of Namaste Interactive a few months ago through one of my best friends, Feng Shui consultant Deborah Kagan. I had been trying to get my newsletter going for about a year but it seemed too daunting a task to even begin. All that work. What am I going to say anyway? How should it look? Will anyone even read it? Then, after finishing Whispers and with a little more time to spare, Deborah suggested I call Chris and Hong and at least have a consultation with them. She reminded me that it was free and, at worse case, might inspire me. So I gave in and met with them. Still, being the control freak I am, I couldn't help thinking, "Why should I pay you a company to design a newsletter based on my website design and which I have to write?" But as Chris patiently explained what he and Hong do, which is to completely support me in designing and communicating my vision via a sophisticated email program, I felt my body begin to relax. Soon, I could actually breathe and began to get excited about the creative process of developing a newsletter collaboratively.

Within a week we had a strategy and design locked, within the second week we had a timeline for the first newsletter. Within a month I had my first newsletter out. It took a little while to perfect, but it was published. I don't mean to imply this was all easy; it took a lot of hand-holding and patience on both sides. But the result is that from my first newsletter I have already earned back more than four times the amount (through Soul Blazing clients, book sales and speaking engagements) that I paid them to help me design and launch it.

Namaste’s professionalism, integrity, humor and zen-like personality works perfectly for me. I am thrilled to have them as a part of my team.

Here's their story:

Five years ago, Hong Vo and Chris Roy began to practice yoga and as a result, they began to think and create a little differently. This newfound awareness helped them to realize that their ten years of combined Internet, marketing, entertainment and promotions experience would be better served helping green businesses, yoga studios and teachers, authors and speakers, product companies and conscious media, to more effectively reach their customers and deliver their message.

So, they embarked upon a journey visiting expos and trade shows, and began to hear from companies who were having trouble sending email newsletters and promotions to their customers. Most of them were trying to import their newsletters into Microsoft Outlook with little success. Images were breaking, ISPs were blocking them and there was no way to track opens, clicks and bounces. Others were using self-service software and were frustrated with the lack of support and design limitations. In short, it became abundantly clear that companies were ready for a new way of managing their customer email promotions.

As a result, Hong and Chris committed themselves to building a unique company that provides highly effective email marketing solution and online communications products. A company whose mission is to work as a partner, delivering real value by helping conscious companies in cultivating a higher connection with their customers. By offering a simple email management tool, sophisticated designs, expert strategy, technical support and affordable prices, Namaste Interactive is attracting some amazing companies.

Hero of the Month
Ben Vereen
At the beginning of this year I was at the Optimum Health Institute in San Diego -- detoxing. On Friday nights at OHI, it’s Open Mic Night, the guests put on a show. This particular Friday night as I sat down to watch the show, a middle-aged black man walked onto the stage. His gait was powerful and confident and he displayed a much stronger presence than I’m used to seeing from the amateurs (myself included) there.

The man began delivering a sermon-like speech laced with humor. He was fantastic, inspiring. I remember whispering to the guest sitting next to me that the man on stage reminded me of Ben Vereen. My neighbor disagreed, reminded me that Ben was in a coma or crippled from a bad car accident several years earlier.

The next day, a Saturday, my back went out. I had obviously pushed myself too far while exercising. On Saturdays we’re allowed to leave the grounds as long as we behave and don’t eat cooked food. But now I was stuck on campus. While standing in the Wheat Grass Room, hunched over as if I was a hundred years old, I saw “the man” walk in. We smiled at each other, and he started juicing his wheat grass next to me and introduced himself as Ben. Well, now I knew. We talked and he helped me back to my room. The next day he brought me breakfast, lunch and dinner -- to my room – and for the rest of the following week booked me with doctors and back specialists, and lined up daily massages. I couldn’t believe it. He even bought me a back brace, a heating pad, and a funny T-Shirt. All for a total stranger. That is who Ben Vereen is.

Later, Ben explained to me how Optimal Health Institute (OHI) and these other specialists he referred me to had been a big part of his recovery from his devastating injuries. His accident helped him refocus his life purpose, expanding his mission from solely entertainer to motivational speaker trying to touch as many lives as possible.

Ben is an exceptional actor and singer and dancer and motivational speaker. To watch him perform is electrifying. He has won almost every award you can think of: Entertainer of the Year, Rising Star, and Song and Dance Star by the American Guild of Variety Artists. Ben continues to headline shows across the country as well as in Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. He has starred in numerous TV shows and films, and can currently be seen on Broadway starring in Wicked.

Over the past few months, he has created a relief fund raising money from Broadway actors. His venture proved very lucrative, raising in excess of $75,000. In the future, however, his goals are not solely geared towards working as an entertainer. He aspires to motivate and inspire people, and to build a congregation. He currently speaks at churches such as Agape and gospel churches around the country. He will be offering a tele-class in early 2006 called “Dinner with Ben,” where for an hour he will bring a sermon to your home, then open up the phone lines for discussion. This is something you do not want to miss. To sign up for his tele-classes please email me and I will pass it on.

Cultural Therapy

Over the past decade, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to travel the world (over 50 countries and counting), in the process meeting with children and adults from all walks of life, from taxi drivers to businessmen, prostitutes to heads of States, Australian Aborigines to Bedouins, and soaking in their different cultures. Many friends and colleagues have expressed an interest in traveling with me, as their guide, to introduce them to another culture and experience. With that in mind, I recently started a “Cultural Therapy” program that I am very excited about.

Cultural Therapy is about bringing a small group of volunteers somewhere in the world where they could be of service. Lend your heart and hands to an orphanage in Phnom Penh or Cuzco or anywhere else we’re needed to improve lives. You will learn first-hand about your host community's culture and history while serving as a valuable resource to children and adults. At the same time, you wage peace and gain new perspectives of the world in one, two or three weeks. It is a rare opportunity to travel deep into the heart of a community – where you’ll arrive as a welcomed guest and leave as a trusted friend.

One of the bonuses of these trips is that in the evenings, you will have the option of doing nothing but relaxing or you can choose to process your learnings with me and my staff through counseling/Soul Blazing and writing exercises, guided yoga classes, and exploring the culture of the country we’re visiting. Digging deeper into yourself while everything is fresh and new and your emotions are raw, I have found, makes the trip all the more enriching.

Sign up here if you're interested in hearing about our next trip.

Soul Blazing

Have you been Soul Blazed today? If not ... why not? Are you in denial? All the more proof you need some Soul Blazing!

What is Soul Blazing?

Soul Blazing is an accelerated method of stripping away a person’s masks, revealing “character flaws” and turning them into strengths. It is about discovering one’s authentic soul and embarking on the life journey one was born to take. Soul Blazing adapts proven techniques from a variety of different analytical approaches (Gestalt, Psychosynthesis, Jungian Analysis, Reality Therapy and others) and adds original techniques to form a completely new paradigm in emotional healing. It is not for the faint of heart. It is tough love to help you break down the mythology that you created for yourself and together we rebuild you from the inside out.

“It’s hard to put into words how you tapped into the essence of what I am about. Your intuition is well-honed.
– Jim Sanders, Financial Advisor, Australia

“Until I was Soul Blazed, I didn’t even know I needed to be Soul Blazed.”

Brain Food

An ancient Arabic puzzle goes like this: A hunter met two shepherds, one of whom had three loaves and the other five loaves. All the loaves were the same size. The three men agreed to share the eight loaves equally between them. After they had eaten, the hunter gave the shepherds eight bronze coins as payment for his meal. How should the two shepherds fairly divide this money?

Answer: The shepherd who had three loaves should get one coin and the shepherd who had five loaves should get seven coins. If there were eight loaves and three men, each man ate two and two-thirds loaves. So the first shepherd gave the hunter one-third of a loaf and the second shepherd gave the hunter two and one-third loaves. The shepherd who gave one-third of a loaf should get one coin and the one who gave seven-thirds of a loaf should get seven coins.
